VISIT OUR CLEARANCE SECTION FOR GREAT CLOSEOUT DEALS!
Appalachian Folk Skills (3 days, 2-night course)
Class Limit 12
Start time: 8 am (first day of class)
Scope:
The purpose of this class is to celebrate our American Heritage, or traditions of our Appalachian fore-bearers, through making various crafts and food preservation. At the Pathfinder School we believe in keeping traditions alive as they are a source of our identity and values. The class will mostly involve working with materials grown or found locally that will aid in the construction of various projects including weaving, broom making, basketry, making treenwear, soap making, candle making and dyeing. We will also dive into the art of food preservation and discuss tincturing, jam making, making hard candy medicine, and fermentation.
This is a very LOW-intensity level class with some walking at a slow pace to observe nature, learn tree/plant species and select project materials. There are no timed deliverables or qualifications in this class so no pressure.
Age Requirements:
Must be at least 18 years old unless accompanied by a guardian or parent.
Required Gear List:
Due to property insurance restrictions: There will be NO camping on the school property prior to the start of the class or after the class concludes. Cabin rental on the property is included in the price of this class.
Disclaimer:
Please make sure you take all gear with you at the end of the class. If gear is left behind, we will not be able to ship it to you, and will be considered abandoned.
All students must read, agree, and sign a Liability Waiver and Release form for the Pathfinder School LLC and the venue prior to attending the course. This can be signed brought to the course/event and given to staff upon arrival. No student will attend training/event without the complete form being on file. Please note we do not share this information with anyone.
