My grandson and I just completed the Intro to survival course. As Dave Canterbury says "this is survival - not camping". We found it both challenging and doable. The instructors were very helpful. My grandson wants to do the basic course. We will see. He and I both will have to work on a few thing before I try it. But; just in case, I am going to try to resurrect my exercise program and buy some hiking shoes. I thought it was a great class.

Highly Recommended

I just got back from attending the pilot class of “Introduction to Survival”. The class had 18 students and two instructors: David Canterbury and Shawn Kelly, plus the camp master. The content that is covered in this class is essentially the same as the “Basic Survival” class, but without the stress, pressure and demanding physical activity. Besides some lecture, most time was spent practicing skills by yourself, with a partner, or as a group of nine. There was plenty of time to ask questions and both David and Shawn did a great job of helping out whenever you needed some extra assistance. I recommend this class for those who want to learn survival basics, but who are unable, or just don’t want to deal with the pressure of the “Basic Survival” class. In fact, if you are new to survival, you may want to take the “Introduction to Survival” class first, then take the “Basic Survival” class, that way you will be better prepared. Also, this is a great class to bring your entire family or kids. There were both in this class. I have to say that David is great working with kids. If your spouse or kids aren’t really into camping, but you want to expose them to the skills taught in the class, you can also stay at a local hotel and just attend during the day. While there isn’t a lot of walking in the actual class, except for a navigation exercise that did cross over a steep creek two different times, there is a lot of walking to and from the bathrooms (about 400 yards away uphill) or to the campsite (about 200-250 yards away uphill). During the class I walked just over 8 miles. All class supplies are provided, including meals. So if you don't have any gear, don't worry about it. Take the class and stay in a hotel. I highly recommend the class.

Top Tier Course and Top Tier Cadre

This class was legit. It combined both the opportunity to bond with a young one interested in survival and bushcraft all while still teaching the adult all they need to know as an introduction to the world of survival. A great combination and mix of instruction, demonstration, and application. I’m coming back.
