Rope, Rigging, and Pioneering Workshop

This class will give you a good base knowledge of the most useful Knots, Riggings, and Simple Machines usable for both woodland and suburban environment. We will discuss both premade and improvised alternatives for use in lifting, moving, and lowering materials. We will also discuss multifunctional aspects of simple Knots and hitches that will transfer to any situation as well as, uses for simple safety when working on a steep grade and low-level heights.

    Port-a-Pots are located approximately 400 yards from the base camp near the parking area.

    Water will be available from jugs located in Base Camp. We continually check the water supply to make sure it is readily available.

    We do not allow anyone to remain at camp without an instructor present

    If you suffer from a medical condition that requires medication, please bring your prescribed medicines with you. If you undergo surgery or a hospital stay within 30 days of the class, DO NOT attempt this course.

      As the premier school for self-reliance, our training exceeds that of any other school in the nation; so please take it seriously and take the time to physically prepare.

          Each class is instructed by highly trained and professional outdoor/wilderness instructors. Each instructor teaches the Pathfinder School system and is authorized by Dave Canterbury. Instructors, including Dave Canterbury, can vary from class to class.

A Pathfinder Instructor will be there to meet you. From there you will follow the instructor in your vehicle to the school property.

          The following options are:

          A. Opossum Hollow - 12x16 Bunkhouse

          1. 8 Bunks are available
          2. Each bunk can be rented individually at the rate of $50.00 (total) for a 3-day class, or $75.00 (total) for a 4-day class.
          3. Bunks will be sold on a first come first served basis and paid for at the time the reservation is made.

          5. Cancellation Policy: A reserved bunk must be cancelled no later than 3 weeks prior to the first day of class to receive a refund.
          6. You may arrive at your reserved cabin the day prior to any course after 3PM (reservations only).

          B. Fox Den - 10x14 cabin

          This cabin can be reserved in two ways.

          1. A family/group can reserve the cabin (up to 4 people) - $150 (total) for a 3-day class or $250 (total) for a 4-day class. To receive the family/group rate, the cabin must be reserved prior to the first day of class.
          2. Fox Den can only be reserved prior to the first day of class by a family or group.
          3. If the cabin is NOT reserved the first day of any course, the individual bunks may be rented at the rate of $50.00 (total) for a 3-dayclass, or $75.00 (total) for a 4-day class.

          Vehicles will be parked in the normal parking area and gear will need to be walked to the cabins - approximately 200 yards.

          All students must read, agree, and sign a Liability Waiver and Release form for the Pathfinder School LLC and the venue prior to attending the course. This can be signed brought to the course/event and given to staff upon arrival. No student will attend training/event without the complete form being on file. Please note we do not share this information with anyone.

          If you need to cancel..

          Once you purchase a class for The Pathfinder School, or for a Self Reliance Outfitters store event, you have up to 14 days before the event or class to cancel and receive a refund. This provides us time to open the spot for someone else to purchase. 

          Any cancellations past that threshold will not be eligible for a refund. 

          If you do not show up for a class or event your registration fees are forfeited and no refunds or store credits will be issued.

          If a class gets canceled...

          We require a minimum of 5 to 10 students to conduct a class (depending on the class).  If a class needs to be cancelled due to an insufficient number of registrations, you will be contacted by phone or email. You will then have the option to transfer to another class (if available), receive a store gift card, or a refund.

          Please note: The Pathfinder School LLC is not responsible for travel expenses, airline tickets, or other accommodations if a class is cancelled.

                  Probably the best knots, ropes, and rigging class ever

                  I’ve got to say that this class was by far my favorite Pathfinder class so far. Not that any were bad, but this class was just fun. I was wondering about the time and money spent traveling to Ohio to learn about ropes, knots, and rigging, but it was well worth the expenditures. Dave, Shawn, and Kevin are excellent instructors, and you just can’t recreate the learning environment by watching YouTube videos. Plus, I met some new friends. Highly recommended.
