The Self Reliance Pack is made of heavy duty material which meets the immediate needs for the overnight or two in the Southeast woodlands. Works very well with containing the 5 C;s needed for either hot, warm, or cool weather. Pair it with a Pathfinder Tarp, wool blanket or 2,and your meals you are good to go. It works for me. One of the best pieces of kit for me.
This bag is cheap but is very good quality for the price. The two pockets in front holds my medical and fire stuff. The over pockets are for the rest. I am amazed and happy with the straps. I am a bigger guy and the one thing i have a problem with is the straps not fitting around me. These straps fit around me perfectly. Thanks again.
I just got my order last week and I'm definitely satisfied with it. From reading other reviews I knew it was a small pack, so I was ok with that. When it arrived, I was enlightened at how small it really is. This is not a complaint, just an observation. For my use of carrying my cooking gear at work, it suits the purpose just right.
I'm a tall man so it's definitely not a hiking pack for me. A funny note, because I'm so tall at 6' 1" the waist belt is more like a sternum strap. Ha ha ha. No offense to SRO or the manufacturer. Again, just an observation.
Anyway, it's a good pack and well built with enough pockets for my needs.
So after 3 years, I still want to hate this backpack so my girl will let me spend money on new one. Sadly, it's still holding up amazingly well and I can't justify buying a replacement! Over the 3 years, this is what I can tell you about it. For plane travel, it's perfect! It fits under the seat, no need for worrying about overhead space even when full. Yes, it's small, but can hold a lot more than you think. It's not waterproof, so if you want to keep stuff dry, pack accordingly. It's not a bug out bag, but for the basics of keeping you alive and semi happy, it fills the bill. The inner plastic lining of whatever it is, is cracking, but does not take away from the functionality. From what I can tell it's only there to keep the shape of the pack. I think this year I will intentionally overload it so it busts at the seams and my girl will allow me to buy a new pack!
