This thing is going with me everywhere!

Okay, generally I don't write reviews on anything unless I *really* have a reason to, and this is one of those times. It's the end of summer, so I've been camping hard, trying to get the most of the outdoors before I have to change gear and maybe have a few more nights at home by the fire to keep my tootsies from getting too cold.
But enough about that. The Pathfinder Pantry Bag has been one of the most wonderful additions to my kit, and I don't think I'll ever be without it in the woods again. Here are a few reasons:
1. This thing is TOUGH. Waxed canvas might not sound like it's all that impressive, but let me tell you that after dragging it through brambles, dropping it in the mud (totally my fault), getting poured on by a couple heavy storms, getting nudged gracefully off of a (small) cliff, and yes, it totally fell in the fire once, but we're never going to talk about that again, I'm still expecting it to be in my kit for years, if not decades to come.
2. Keeps my stuff perfectly dry. Sure, the cinch cord at the top might not close the opening ALL the way, but what's left is pretty small. Take a bag, bit of plastic, spare left sock, or whatever, and tie it over the opening with a bit of cordage and constrictor knot (clove hitch, boa knot, square knot if you enjoy prying knots out, whatever), and you're good to go, which means I can take dry goods (flour, corn meal, etc.) out with me for cooking and really look forward to creating some awesome meals. Bring on the monsoon! Also, it makes a pretty handy food bag to sling up high and away from camp, which brings me to my third point.
3. WAY more space inside than you think it has. I have an assortment of 2oz-12oz round tins that I take with me in this thing that give me a TON of cooking options away from the kitchen, and I STILL have room for a 32oz canteen and mini bush pot with room to spare.
4. Portability. Sure, you could always carry it by hand, but that's just silly. Any place that you would normally strap, pack, or clip a tent is the perfect spot. Usually, I go out with a hammock, so the bottom straps on my pack that would normally be used for that or a bedroll is where I like to hang my pantry. It's convenient, out of the way, and even with everything fully loaded inside, doesn't add that much weight, or offset my balance at all.
5. Versatile. Yeah, okay, we outdoorsy types will use anything for anything, and this is no exception. Need a deep foraging bag? Done. Need to carry water a ways? It'll do that. Need to prefilter water? Melt a bit of the wax through on the bottom (yes, I did this after dropping it in the fire, because it seemed like the thing to do after being an idiot...rewaxing the bag only takes a few minutes), and use it as a fine sieve. Need a place to flour and roll out biscuits? Empty it and toss it on a semi-flat surface. I've used it as a cutting board (carefully...sorta). Stuffed it with pine needles for a pillow (we don't get much good moss here, but that would probably be better). Collected kindling in it. Used it as a wet bucket when I was fishing. A sleeve for tenderizing meat in. A sack to collect good rocks for a fire ring. And yes, once, I even got bored and used it for the seat of a rope swing...because why not?

The best part is that I'm headed back out to find somewhere new to set up camp this weekend, and it's coming along for the ride again, and I have new recipes I want to try with the ample ingredients I can carry, and new ways to use this little bag for things it was never intended for (but I'm sure it'll do far more than I ask of it, as always).
Five stars, but only because I can't give it ten.

Tough and strong!

I wish the site listed the maximum number of 1 lb. and 1/2 lb. tins they can hold...

Great Bag, Lots of Capacity, Organized and compact

Great Bag, holds quite a bit. With the various sized twist lid tins allows organization plus has additional space for enough tins, extra food, spices even a spork! I used this for a recent trip and had 2 flour, two types of beans, mashed potatoes, powdered eggs even some cheese in one bag. I had other stuff in the large bush pot and bag to handle meals for 4 people for 3 days no problem. A couple of summer sausage, some slice salami, had it covered. Grab the kit and a couple more tins and be prepared to have enough food on hand for 3 days easily.
Cheers
