Started a fire the first time , looking forward to trying it out on a bow drill. High quality thank you Dave.
I really like the way the tool fits my hand and the divot for a bearing block. The tin is nice too, now I have a container for a fire kit instead of a "baggie" bag. The piece of chert in the kit throws sparks really well. I just "cooked" up a new batch of char cloth, so my kit is almost complete.
I Totally dig this tool! I was a little skeptical since the description says it doesnt strike a ferro rod, but the edge is 90 degrees and it will strike my cheap ferro rod (the kind on a magnesium bar purchased years ago from a big box store.) Of course, YMMV.
My main interest is to have a tool that I can soon give my young kids to practice striking flint and scraping bark etc before I would let the have a knife. all in all very satisfied.
Multi Fire Tool
My previous fire tool was more than sufficient for it's intended purposes but I wanted something with better aesthetics that would look more at home in a traditional fire kit. So, when SRO came out with their fire tool, I saw the arrowhead shape and knew I had to give it a try. The Multi Fire Tool works great as a scraper and a striker and the bow drill divot, especially when lubed up with a little fixing wax, is second to none. It also make a handsome pendant once thrown onto a leather thong or a piece of paracord. You also get a larger-than-Altoids tin and a nice 1" across or so piece of rock to use for striking a spark with the tool, which are nice extras. I've ordered two of these, as well as SRO's simpler strikers, and the piece of stone they've included has always been properly sized and shaped for carry anywhere as well as maximum strikeability. The tool does come with a sandblasted finish I found a bit too rough for my taste, so I ran a wire wheel locked into the chuck of a drill over it and now it's perfect. I highly, highly recommend giving one of these try. If you're on the fence about it, The Bearded Burton has a great video on it on YouTube.
