 What's So Great About Wool?

WOOL IS WATER RESISTANT.

The quality that distinguishes wool fibers from hair or fur is the presence of a hard, water-repellent outer layer that surrounds each hollow fiber, overlapping like shingles on a roof. The fiber's core absorbs up to 30% of its weight in moisture vapor without becoming damp or clammy, while the hard outer layer protects against outside liquid moisture. Water is repelled, but humidity is absorbed, and that helps with thermal regulation.

WOOL IS MOISTURE WICKING.

Besides keeping outside moisture away from the skin, wool also wicks away perspiration. When you sweat, that sweat cools your skin-which is not what you want when it's cold outside. Wool fibers absorb perspiration and wick it away from your body, thus keeping you warm and dry.

WOOL IS A WONDERFUL INSULATOR.

The crimp of the wool produces insulating air spaces that retain body heat. These warm air pockets next to the skin are kept dry while the hollow wool fibers absorb moisture vapors and the hard outer surface moves liquid moisture away from the body.

WOOL REGULATES TEMPERATURE AND IS BREATHABLE.

Wool has a very wide comfort range, essential for adapting to changing weather conditions. This unique property makes wool the perfect fiber to be used in the production of outerwear because it has the versatile ability to warm in colder conditions and cool in warmer conditions.

Excellent quality

Super happy with my purchase, I will be saving up for another. This blanket is huge with a tight weave, but it’s not super thick. The size makes up for it when wrapping yourself up, it will keep you cozy down in the 30’s with proper clothing. Highly recommended.

Know the facts, no regrets

I didn't want to write a review until I had used this. Upfront, this is a QUALITY blanket for the price point. It is NOT a 4-season "gonna use this when it's minus 10 and be fine" kinda blanket. It is nowhere as thick as a Hudson Bay or Pendleton. If you're looking for that $450-$750 blanket at a $190, sorry. That said, lemme tell ya how it does work within its limits. First, it's a little scratchy right out of the bag. Wash it on gentle with cold water and a perfume, dye, phosphate, and oxygen free detergent. I just used All Free & Clear with no Oxy-boost. Throw it over your bed with a fan on it to dry. Warning! Wet wool smells like a yak's @$$. It will not transfer that smell to your bed and it will go away when the blanket dries, promise. I haven't had a chance to get it in Nature, but I filled a canvas tarp with 6 inches of leaves, put this blanket down on it, and slept on my front porch at 43 degrees with decent pair of poly-pro long underwear, good socks, a wool watch cap, and this blanket wrapped around me. I was absolutely comfortable under these conditions. I believe this blanket would be comfortable down to mid 30's and chilly, but tolerable, to freezing or upper 20's with slightly better clothing. The only thing I am changing is having a brass YKK zipper all the way around the outside so it can be easily doubled over and used as a sleeve or hammock under quilt. In my mind this will greatly increase the functionality with only a slight extra investment.

Excellent product

I bought two of these wool blankets back in December 2018. They are great; warm and comfortable. I waited so long because I wanted to test them out here in cooler weather for Texas. They performed above and beyond my expectations. Thanks for a great product, Dave.

great blanket

This is a beautiful blanket. It's a Fairbault blanket made for Pathfinder which was great for me as Fairbault doesn't ship to Canada. The weight is maybe the light end of medium, but this is good for a blanket of this size. I'm 6'2" / 220 lbs and i can double up in this blanket and be very warm. It is a very generous size. Definitely a must have if you are setting up a long term kit or just want a great blanket to throw on your bed in the winter. Virgin wool, it's very soft as wool blankets go and does not easilly "pill". It's a pretty tight weave, you can see a bit of light through it, but again, it's a big blanket so you can double up and be very warm. Well worth the price.
