How to Use a Portable French Press
Brewing a smooth, rich cup of French press coffee is easy when you have your Pathfinder camping travel press coffee kit.
-
Add the grinds to the bottom of the stainless steel container. Course grinds work best, but you can use a smaller grind size and still enjoy good coffee thanks to the fine mesh filtering screen. Use two tablespoons for every eight ounces of boiled water (or slightly more if you like a richer brew).
-
Boil the water. With the Pathfinder Stainless Steel Water Bottle, you can heat the water directly over the flames. You can heat the water in the French press container if you don’t have a separate camping bottle or stove. Yes, it’s durable enough for campfire cooking!
-
Pour your boiling water into the French Press container up to your desired amount (if heating the water separately). The measurements inside the container make it easy to create the correct ratio of coffee grounds and water. If you’re using the French Press Kit alone, you still want to add the grounds first, then the water. After that, place the French Press on your cooking grate uncovered until the water boils.
-
Remove the Pathfinder coffee press from the fire and cover it with the top. Let the coffee steep for about four minutes.
-
After brewing, gently push the plunger down all the way.
That’s all there is to it! You can pour, serve, and enjoy a cup of rich, tasty coffee while drinking in the great outdoors.
How Long Does Brewed Coffee Stay Warm?
The Pathfinder camping French Press kit is made from 304 food-grade stainless steel, so you can expect to keep your coffee hot for close to an hour. You can also keep your coffee warmer by placing the pot back over the campfire.
However, keep in mind: Coffee in French presses will continue to brew, so it’s best to prepare and pour into your coffee mug or camping thermos immediately to get the best flavor.
The Best Travel French Press Coffee Maker for Camping and Hiking
The Pathfinder French Press is a bushcrafter’s dream. It holds up to 48 ounces so you can make plenty of coffee for yourself and your family or friends. You can also use it as a stand-alone kit to pack light without sacrificing great coffee.
But the best part is you can count on delicious, smooth coffee every time. There’s no paper filter to remove some of the coffee’s oils, and no need to settle for a bland cup of instant coffee when you’re roughing it. You can fuel your outdoor adventure with pure coffee goodness with the Pathfinder press.

I recently purchased the Pathfinder Coffee and French press combo and as with all of my previous purchases I am well satisfied. I motorcycle camp and Multi use equipment is a must. The press is definitely multi use and works well. The coffee is very good as well. Would purchase again. Ready to test it out in the field next on my first motorcycle camp of the season.
Bought the press when it had a promotion that came with 2 bags of the pathfinder coffee, everything showed up within a few days and was as advertised. The coffee is exceptional good!!! Rugged French press. I’m sure I will get years and years of use out of it
First I'd like to begin with the caveat of, yes I bought the Pathfinder Coffee & French Press Combo, but I haven't used the coffee pot yet. However, the coffee itself is delicious. I like the dark brew, the Woodsman Wake up Call, and my wife likes the light brew, Campfire.
Like Dave, I'm not a coffee drinker but when in the field I would drink some to stay awake after long periods of around the clock working. And like Dave, I use creamer and sugar. I like the French Press so I don't have to bother with other ways to separate the grounds. I can use it for other things like loose leaf tea. A welcome addition to my preparedness supplies.
This is great , I have used these several times over the last few weeks. Coffee is perfect .. tastes great and less filling! And the press is the bomb. I had an old Stanley press that melted because the press part was plastic. No worries now . Thank you Dave for all that you and your team do for the outdoor community.

Fits my bottle like a glove. As an added bonus I use it to keep me warm in winter outdoor sleepovers. Fill your bottle with hot water, slip it in the bag, and keep it with you in your sleeping gear...Many therms of warmth for several hours!
I could not be happier with this purchase. As other items I have from SRO the build quality is above average and solid as a rock.
Pot - Love the bat wing handles. My hands are average and there is plenty of room to fit all 4 fingers in with a glove on. No issues with getting a good grip on it. I have been using it on a canister stove and find that it sits sturdy when cooking since it has a wider bottom than cup type pot. I also like bail it comes in handy to grab it off the stove. I can’t wait to try it over a campfire with a tripod.
Stove – Great match Dave. Good idea to make it a little smaller. If you take it out of its pouch and just use a bandana you can lay it flat on the bottom of the pot and a gas can on top of it with room for the stem. The top will stick up just a bit, but the bag takes care of keeping it all together.
Bag – I like it a lot. It’s built well and should hold up under normal use. It is big enough that you can have the pot and sit a 110g can on top and it closes and does not leave a lot of extra bag flopping around.
Windscreen – It’s HUGE!!!! 12 panels. This thing will have no problem blocking the wind for the stove. Actually, I think it’s large enough to use around one of the square butane stoves a caterer uses. I can see using it as a small campfire heat reflector.
I see another poster mentioned this on the page for the pot alone. “Would love to see a 6-inch version of the camp skillet to go with it.” I agree with them it would make a great combination set / addition to this set.
The Ozark Trail 18oz Stainless Steele cup from Walmart (still only $6.00) nests perfectly inside the 1QT. pot. You can then fill the cup, take the stove out of its pouch, and lay it flat on top of the cup. The lid sticks up just a bit but once it’s in the bag and the gas can is on top of it, it sits snug.
I purchased this mattress to replace the foam mattress in my Canvascutter Bedroll, as the foam was too bulky to properly pack on a horse. This mattress compacts down to half the size, and is just as comfortable. It inflates and deflates properly without the use of a pump. It seems to be constructed very well. Great Mattress!
a awesome piece of equipment to have
As usual 1st class item & service.
