I owned the Kephart, and I was very happy with it. I had studied on getting the mountaineer for a long while and finally went ahead and got it- never looked back. its got enough hind end to do large task and is manageable for small fine work.
Mountaineer (Curly Maple)
An awesome piece of steel. The sharpest knife I’ve ever seen come out of a box.
Limited use so far, but the look and feel are fantastic. I've done some light fire processing and fire starting with a ferro rod and it performed admirably. Only negative is the leather sheath I purchased along with this knife, stitching is already coming apart.
Hi quality, strong, striking and very sturdy for tough work. Excellent back country companion. Not necessarily a "survival" knife to do everything, but what it's designed for is perfect.
