2016 Modern Trapping Class

LIMITED TO 12 ADULTS

Date: Novemeber 12th thru 15th

This will be a 4-day intensive trapping course, covering all forms of traps as well as water and upland sets for everything from raccoon, to coyote, and beaver. We will also cover utilizing the resources from these animals and hide prep. This will be a one of kind folks and the only one this year like it. Dave Canterbury is a certified Expert Trapper by the FTA Trapper's College.

This one of a kind Class will take you through the basic skills of Trapping for Fur as well as Meat. Handling and processing the catch, as well as teaching you critical skills needed to use Modern Trapping Techniques.

Due to property insurance restrictions: There will be no camping on the school property prior to the start of the class or after the classes concludes. Bring all necessary camping (tents are acceptable) & other gear for conditions and environment (Weather will be very cold most likely) Food, Snacks, and Coffee etc.…

Needed Items:

  • Knife
  • Axe
  • Saw
  • Leather Gloves
  • Muck Artic Pro Boots or Yoder Hip Waders (Knee High WP Boots are a Minimum)
  • Metal Container 32oz Minimum
  • Metal Cook Pot
  • All Needed Equipment to Camp

Trapping Equipment List (We have some equipment to loan but arrangements must be made prior to the class starting)

  • 2) 1 ¾ Coil Spring Traps
  • 1) #11 Double Long spring
  • 3) #110 OR #120 Body Grip Traps
  • 6) 3/64 7x7 Cable Snares with Slide Locks 24 2’ Stakes or 12 Duckbill Earth Anchors Trapping Hammer or Ground Hog Tool Dirt Sifter Pan Covers (Paper Muffin Cups)
  • Lineman or Fencing Type Pliers
  • 2) 5gal Buckets for traps and tools or trap pack

  • Learn types of traps and trap placement
  • Identify key trap locations and make proper sets
  • Upland and Water Trapping Techniques
  • Snaring and Snare use
  • Attractants and Lures
  • Processing Game and Fur
  • Safe Trapping and Emergency measures
  • Prepping Fur for Tanning

Meeting location: Exxon Gas Station located at 7575 Rte. 327 Wellston, OH 45692 (740) 384-4767 at 8am on the first day of class (unless otherwise noted in the individual class description). A Pathfinder Instructor will be there to meet you. From the there you will be lead to the school property.
