Blacksmithing 1 - Basic Concepts & Forming Metal

$300 per student
 
2016 Dates:
  • March 5th - 6th
  • June 25th - 26th
  • September 3rd & 4th
NO experience required - Class limited to 6 students - (must be 16 years or older, under 18 must be accompanied by an adult)
 
Will be covering the following:
 
Basic Forge Set and Fuels
Basic Equipment
Types of Metal to use for items needed
Heating metal and Forging Temperature/Fire Control
Basic Hammer and Handling Techniques
Shaping
Quenching
Tempering
Using More advanced methods and tools
Splitting and cutting metal
Drifting and Punching Metal
Hot Filing
 
Projects being completed during the class:
Fire Steel
Squirrel Cooker
Patch Knife
 
Location of Training: Pathfinder School - Jackson, Ohio: 
You will meet the first day of class at 8am at the Exxon Gas Station at 7575 St. Rte 327 Wellston, OH 45692 (740) 384-4767. An instructor from the Pathfinder School will be there to meet you. From there you will be lead to the school property.

Blacksmithing 2 - Knife Making Class

$300 per student

2016 Dates:

  • April 9th - 10th
  • July 30th - 31st
  • October 1st & 2nd

Class limited to 8 students - (must be 16 years or older, under 18 must be accompanied by an adult) 

Projects: 
  • Knife by Material Reduction and Heat Treat
  • Second Knife by Material Reduction & Heat Treat of YOUR OWN DESIGN
  • Hand Forge a Knife and Complete
 
Students will leave with 2 finished Blades and all material will be provided

Blacksmithing 3 - Tool Making for Woodcraft

$325 per student

2016 Dates:

  • August 13th & 14th
  • November 26th & 27th
Class is limited to 6 students - (must be 16 years or older, under 18 must be accompanied by an adult)
 
Blacksmithing 1 - Basic Concepts & Forming Metal Class required before taking this class.
 

Projects:
Belt Axe
Forge a Froe
Forging a Draw Knife

ALL MATERIALS WILL BE PROVIDED

Blacksmithing 4 - Making & Using Carving Tools

$325 per student

2016 Dates:

  • No Class at this time

Class limited to 6 students - (must be 16 years or older, under 18 must be accompanied by an adult)

Blacksmithing 1 - Basic Concepts & Forming Metal Class required before taking this class.

All working materials will be provided

Students will need to bring:
  • Safety Glasses
  • 1 Pair of Welding Gloves
  • Hearing Protection
  • Sharp Small Axe
  • Folding or Buck Saw

Syllabus 

Day 1:

Student will forge:

  • A Crook Knife
  • A Gouge
  • A Scorp

Day 2:

Students will learn Spoon Carving Basics and Axe Work.
